The first settlers in New Zealand !

Bonjour blogging world,

Today I will be doing my first blog post for the summer learning journey. The fist activity is  The fist settlers. We had to read a short story about a famous man in Māori mythology – Maui. Then in the text we had to find three interesting facts about Maui. If you would like to see the short story of Maui here is a link to the story. Link

Here are the three interesting facts I found.

1.  Maui had no bait to go fishing so he used his own blood as bait.

2. Maui was the smallest brother but he got the biggest fish.

3. Maui got help by Murirangawhenua because he said the karakia.

We also had to find other story's that we have heard.

1. Every victory he wins he gets a tattoo on him.

2. Only with the fish hook Maui can shape shift.

Thank you for reading this blog post it would really good if you could leave a positive, helpful and thoughtful comment bellow. Blog you later

  1. Hey Amaya,

Happy New Year. I am very excited that you have decided to join our adventures on the Summer Learning Journey. We have been having a great time commenting on other students posts and it is great to see you add a post as well.

What awesome facts you have found out about Maui. I really liked how you recognised that Maui's karakia help him reach out to his Grandmother for guidance and help. This is important to recognise as karakia's are a very important aspect of the Maori culture. Can you think of other times you may hear a karakia being performed? You could possibly recite one at your school assembly.

My university class and I often recite a karakia before our class starts to ask for protection and help us absorb the information we are being taught.

I am looking forward to seeing more of your exiting posts. Maybe next time change the format of your information. For some reason it has over lapped which made it hard for me to read your 3 facts.

I hope you have a lovely day Amaya,
    Megan :)
